Learn Magic Tricks Online

By Munyaradzi Chinongoza Would you like to learn magic tricks online? I can think of more than a dozen people right now, just from the top of my head, who would jump at the opportunity to learn magic tricks, if it was presented to them. There's no doubt in my mind that almost everyone wants to learn how to do those famous card tricks or make pennies disappear and reappear behind an ear, just to entertain your friends and family. It makes you the center of attraction at a party or gathering, and don't we all just love attention, I know I definitely do. There is so many different types of magic tricks you could learn, from simple tricks with cards, coins and string to tricks with beer cans, water glasses and even match boxes. The type of tricks you can perform usually depend on the level your are at as far as, the tricks you have learnt. Although, when you see magic being performed it looks like things are disappearing and reappearing in weird places or some things seem to be moving without anything touching them, its all elusion. Ever heard the hand is quicker than the eye, that is basically what magic is, the hand doing things fast enough so that the eye does not pick up what exactly happens. Sometimes, a magician will have special props created for their tricks to make them more entertaining, but even in these cases the magic trick will only be as effective as how well it has been performed. You will need to learn magic tricks, but not only stop there. You are also going to have to practice your magic tricks, so that you can even perform them in your sleep. If you get tired of the card, coin and string tricks, these are little tricks you can always move on to street magic like the famous David Blaine has been seen performing on TVs worldwide. You can learn magic tricks for fun or start performing for big money, whatever your intentions, magic will always be super fun and there are many resources for you to do it online

Lantern Festival - Celebration for Some, Torture for Some

By Rajesh Kanoi My university, here in Huainan, that has looked so deserted for the past few weeks has started showing some signs of life. The odd student has started returning and there is certainly more activity here than in the last few weeks. The early birds here are the ones looking for their worms of love. Apparently, unable to bear the long Spring Festival-induced separation, they have come back to school sooner than necessary - sooner than necessary as per the school's diktats but perhaps, less sooner than the necessity imposed by nature. Which means, they have borne the festivities with some sort of stoicism. Spring Festival is the time when reunions are de rigeur for families. But lovers do not qualify as family and so they must make do with a period of segregation. They walk now, hand-in-hand, arm-in-arm, smiles on their faces, homes and hearths forgotten in the fire of love. Lantern Festival! Today, the fifteenth day of the Spring Festival, a full moon day, is the Lantern Festival when people remember their ancestors, if I recall rightly. After today, this year's Spring Festival will be consigned to the caves in the minds of the people and the hearts of lovers. Some will remember it with fondness and others, perhaps, with a little less, depending on what the festival gave or took from them. The streets this morning are deserted. The morning was noisy though, with firecrackers rousing me from my tossing-turning sleep well before fingers of light could brighten the horizon. Xia Wu Fandian (Afternoon Restaurant, if my translation skills are any good), my head-office as I refer to it since most of my meals and drinking are 'accomplished' there, was crowded. I walked on to see more of the festivities. All I saw was unenforced curfew - or, perhaps, a curfew enforced by tradition. I imagined people sitting to a lavish spread with their ones at home, leaving the streets to be trawled by the homeless and the foreigners, perhaps, equally homeless in some sense. I returned an hour later and the restaurant was as deserted as the streets and I sat down to my small measure of baijiu (white wine) appetizer and cabbage with fried and diced pieces of doufu (tofu, beancurd) and a bowl of rice to go with it. It tasted good, as usual. It's a dish created by a student's (Chris's) pretty girl firend, Peace. She directed the restaurant's owner-cum-chef on how to prepare it and it has become a hit with me and a few others I have taken with me to sample the dish. While I waited, I asked the owner's mother, who helps clean and wash the dishes there, where the lao ban niang (mistress of the establishment) was. 'Mama', a genial old lady, with an ever smiling face and busy hands, signalled that she was at home in bed. Why, I asked. She indicated that he, her son the lao ban, (the boss) had beaten her. I am about to call him and ask why he did that, forgetting for a moment, that men have been beatiing their wives for thousands of years, not only in China, India or Asia but all over the world. Thankfully, most women don't cower in the face of domestic violence anymore. Instead, they are more than willing to desert their violent husbands/mates. Unfortunately, in parts of Asia, women still allow that and don't raise a hand against their partners, nor their voice against the 'practice'. I wonder when this violence will end, when men will return their women the dignity they not only deserve but have earned over centuries. I believe, it's men with a huge sense of inferiority that do this, not men who are real men. Festival times are not times to rejoice for all...for some they are times of torture! Abatement of Noxious Compounds and Chemicals in the Cleaning Business

By Lance Winslow So often in the cleaning business chemicals are not stored properly and neither are the empty containers which conveniently leak, mix with rain water and tip over and soak into the ground surrounding the building and seep into the ground water causing environmental issues; you know like three legged frogs and such. Now mind you I am not an environmentalist, but I do know a thing or two about environmental pollution and lots about the cleaning industry and business, especially on the service sector side of things. You see for years I ran a mobile pressure washing business, which we built up and franchised into 23 states. One thing I would always do is scout out the competition to see if they posed a threat to our franchisees and our forward progress in the market place. I would often visit their facilities and was usually taken aback at their lack of caring for the environment, plastic drums and steel barrels of containers left littered around the property with weeds growing between them. I will tell you that the problem is about 60% of the operators out there and in all the sub sectors from the 49,000 car washes to the 55,000 small businesses doing pressure washing and the 150,000 doing janitorial businesses; this is a huge thing and a real problems. Imagine the cancer risks to the workers and employees, which is the biggest concern people talk about. Someday someone ought to figure out what to do and organize the abatement of noxious compounds and chemicals in the Cleaning Business to prevent all these mini-eco-disasters. Consider all this in 2006. "Lance Winslow" - Online Think Tank forum board. Facing Our Fears

By Kim Bloomer "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." John 14: 27, NIV Our Sunday paper gets the insert magazine, Parade. Today right on the cover was "Let's Stop Scaring Ourselves" by Michael Crichton. Funny because he wrote Jurassic Park and some other "scary" books. The very message we received in church today was being freed from fear. Apparently fear abounds in the world today, but as Christians we are to be freed from the bondages of the fear that drives unbelievers. In fact, we can be free to share with unbelievers the freedom of Jesus, whether they threaten us or not. Paul said to live is Christ and to die is gain. Either way, as Christians we win! So what is there to fear really but fear itself. Fill in the blank here: the opposite of love is? What did you answer? Did you answer hate? If you answered hate, you'd be wrong. The opposite of love is fear not hate although hate is a part of fear. The opposite of faith is fear also. If we have fear our faith and love are greatly lacking. You see God gives us the love we have. It doesn't just manifest out of nowhere, God is infusing us with His love in order that we might love others as an extenstion of His love and grace. When we fear, we are playing right into the devil's hands. He wants us afraid and focused on anything but the love and grace of God. God does not want us to live our lives stricken with fear because then we are not living in faith. Fear affects us in so many ways, including phyiscally. Fear begins when we buy into the lie. That's what the enemy wants - for us to buy into the lie. I don't know what is going on in each of your lives as you sit and read this today but I can tell you what I've gone through recently. It rather tickles me when people tell me "Oh, you have your own business you must be raking it in!" The hours alone you put in when you run your own business or businesses is enough to make a 9 to 5er be sick. Well, I recently have grown a bit tired and yes, a bit frustrated. I've never been a patient person. Positiionally I'm in a great place but the waiting is agony! I got rather down. When I get like that, I always go to my knees. I "wrestle" in prayer, wanting to understand, wanting to fulfull God's purpose in my life NOW, lol! He just pats me on the head in His loving way and says, "Kim, just wait upon Me. My timing is perfect. Don't fret, don't fear." Jesus said, "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me." (John 14: 1, NIV). When we fear brethren, it will result in our disobedience to God. God wants us to step out in faith and He will give the victory unto us for the glory of His name. If we don't take that step though, we are not obeying Him. Our fear is hindering us which means that the paralysis of fear is equal to unbelief, not trusting God to fulfull His promises and that my dear brothers and sisters in Christ is sin. Fear can lead us down a road of compromise, not allowing God to work in our lives. We can imagine all sorts of things going wrong, fear starts to reside, and then our imaginations run rampant causing ultimately our disobedience to God, resulting in sin.
But how do we face our fears?? We face our fears by seeking the Savior, Jesus. "You will keep in perfect peace him who mind is steadfast, because he trusts you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord, is the Rock eternal." Isaiah 26: 3 - 4. We fight fear with fear. Huh? We fight this earthly fear with the fear of God. Remember the fear of the Lord leads to life. The Bible tells us that the beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord. If you've ever read through the Book of Proverbs you'll see this constantly stated. Does it mean to tremble and go ill with fear? No, absolutely not. The word fear here means, to stand in awe of, in reverential respect and awe of our God. To know that He is in control of all things. If we die, we are with Him, if we live we are living out our lives for His good will and purpose. Like our pastor said this morning, we know the end of the movie. God gave us the final chapter in human history. We know how this world ends. We have nothing to fear if we are His. Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Jesus IS the truth and He is the way. He IS eternal life. Satan is ever prosecuting us to God but because of the blood of Jesus, we can stand without fear of the eternal judgement of God. God provided us the way to eternal life with Him through His Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus. We need not fear if we've recognized our need for a Savior, repented of our sin and relinquished our lives to Him. We don't need to stay in fear. Fall back on the truths of Jesus, and know that He dealt with death and sin on the cross at Calvary over 2000 years ago. Jesus IS eternal life. Jesus IS the way without fear. Jesus IS the Light. No fear. Kim Bloomeris a natural pet care consultant and also publishes a pet wellness RSS channel, http://www.Aspenbloom-WellPet.com and Christian RSS channel, http://www.sharingspirit.net. Garden Water Feature - The Fish Dish

By Maisy Day Want to be the envy of all the neighbours in the avenue then a water feature has to be placed into the garden. What ever fancy garden ornamentation that is to be - is entirely up to your own choosing. Because of the many designs and fixtures you may come up against problems in trying to decide what water garden feature to have. The pond is a water feature found in most gardens today in all shapes and sizes and enhanced to the full with added extras to set the scene. Water lilies - bull rushes and reeds are just a few to mention. But it is the under water life that makes the pond more attractive (fish)
Remember when adding a water feature to the garden - take extra precautions in the safety measures where children are concerned. Water garden features like the pond and the fish also need care and attention. Ponds have to be cleaned regular and fish need to be fed. Questions that crop up from many water garden owners is how to feed the fish - what type of feed should be used - how much and how often. Well the answer to that is there is no real fixed amount of fish food to give. Of course there are some important issues on what to feed the fish. You have to take into account the fish`s size its appetite and their delicate digestive system which can differ due to water temperature changes. Beginning from early spring to late autumn you will find the fish very energetic so it will do no harm to feed them every day. If the fish are prepared to take more then so be it. Remember you are not force feeding them so if the fish don`t want to bite then they wont. However, towards the colder months lessen the frequency of feed intake. Sometimes due to the fishs stillness at winter time then no feed is necessary Try not to instigate problems for your fish`s well being by denying them the right food. While the fish are in the mood to dine it is best to serve up a dish that will help them to stay active and healthy. Nourishing fish food is highly recommended. Bread/biscuit meal and ants eggs are less nutritional and can cause problems to the digestive system. Floating pellets filled with high-protein are very nutritious. By feeding the fish this way you get to see more of them as they surface for feeding. Once the garden is the way you have always dreamed of full of foliage -shrubs and sweet scented flowers and of course your water garden feature - then remember that all the surrounding plant growth will attract insects so feeding the fish at this time is not necessary. Natural food supply should start to continue again with pellets in the autumn, this will help perk the fish up in their preparation to face the winter. Repeat pellet feeding in spring it will help the fish recover more rapidly ready for breeding. Water features and creatures go hand in hand in adding beauty to the garden. Expect toads - newts and frogs to hang out in the pond area. Your water garden has not only given you a garden ornament that the neighbours would die for - it is the thought of giving a home to natures aquatic water life. How Much Will Your Prescriptions Cost You?

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=West_Conner] West Conner I remember as a child watching a wonderful movie called Animals are Beautiful People. The movie is about the different animals living in Africa and how much they are like human beings. In one scene, a native shows the technique for catching monkeys. They would catch monkeys, not for food, but for water. The monkeys knew where the water was so the African would give the monkey salt. After getting very thirsty from licking the block of salt, it would lead the native to the water source. The interesting part is how the monkeys are caught. First, the native would make sure a curious monkey is watching him. He then would but some nuts, berries, or other food into a hollowed out log or rock. After a while, curiosity gets the best of the little monkey and he just has to know what is in that hole. The opening is just large enough for the monkey to put his hand in. When the monkey grabs what is inside, his fist is too big to pull it out of the hole. Hes just too stubborn to let go of his prize and pull his hand out. The native can simply walk over and tie the monkey to a tree. The reason I relay this story to you is to demonstrate how these big drug companies capture you. They lure you in with slick direct to consumer advertising. Im sure youve seen the commercials on television. Everyone seems to be so happy after taking this little pill. They can suddenly ride bicycles, climb mountains, fish, hike, laugh, play, and have a beautiful relationship with their spouse. So now your curiosity is aroused and you want to see what this medication is all about. In a recent study, 75% of patients who asked their doctor for a particular name brand drug, regardless of their condition, got it. Drug companies advertise to you because it works. Once you think that this pill is going to be the answer to your dreams, they have you. You just cant wait to try this pill that is going to make your life wonderful. They know that you cannot just open your hand and let go, just like the monkey. Remember when Claritin first came out several years ago? The manufacturer spent millions of dollars advertising the new drug. It was the first non-sedating anti-histamine. Suddenly, people without allergies were asking their doctor for Claritin. Not because they needed it, but because they saw the commercial. When Prilosec was introduced to the market, it took the subject of heartburn to the front page. For years, the old standby drugs worked just fine (and they still do). Then this new medication became available and everyone wanted it. Next time you see one of these commercials, pay attention to the people in the advertisement. For Paxil, a woman cant face the social gathering outside until she popped her pill, then she is the life of the party. After taking Levitra, a man can suddenly throw a football through a tire. Hidden meaning? Maybe. (You can get Claritin free at www.claritin.com, free Prilosec OTC at www.prilosecotc.com, and free Levitra at www.levitra.com) According to Forbes magazine, the most expensive diseases are:
Heart Conditions at $68 billion
Cancer at $48 billion
Mental Illness at $48 billion
Respiratory ailments at $45 billion
Hypertension at $32.5 billion
Arthritis and joint disorders at $32 billion
Diabetes at $28 billion
Back problems at $23 billion The average out of pocket expense for prescriptions is now over $250 a month. This is how much money the average person has to pay, with or without insurance, every month at the pharmacy. That comes to over $3000 a year spent on prescription drugs for the average person. I dont want to be average; and I am definitely not average. Recent history tells us that prescription prices are going up anywhere from 8% to 15% per year. What if we used 10%? So next year, the average will be $3300; two years from now, $3630. At this rate, in ten years, you will be spending over $6400 a year, $533 per month. In twenty years, at this rate, $17,000 a year. In thirty years, almost $48,000 a year, $4000 per month! This is average.
Add all this up and it comes to almost $550,000 spent on your prescription. This is IF the increase stays at 10%. Remember, the range has been from 8% to 15%. Changing the rate to 15% increases the amount spent to $1.47 million! WOW! What if you could save just 10% of the cost of your prescriptions? Can you think of something else to do with roughly $100,000? I know I could. Now is the time to be one of the few people who educate themselves about their medication. This will allow you to talk with your doctor about less expensive alternates. Using generics can save you 90%. Cutting your tablets will save you up to 50%. Using certain hidden rebated have the potential to save you hundreds per year, they are right there for the asking. It is said that knowledge is power. In this case, lack of knowledge is expensive. Dr. West Conner is the author of the incredibly popular workbook How To Save Money On Your Prescription Drugs and the audio CD Are You Spending Too Much On Your Prescriptions? He is currently active in assisting clients who are having difficulty affording their prescription drugs. Through his many years of practice, Dr. Conner has developed a number of unique and creative ways to lower prescription costs. Know Your Career Goals

By Terje Ellingsen What are your career goals? This is probably the most important question you can ask and very few people can actually answer it. It's amazing and a bit of a paradox that most of us career people spend so much time with career planning and working toward goals that we hardly can specify. In the starting phase of a career, things don't always seem like a big deal; in fact they are pretty easy. Most people appreciate having a job, and when the job is new, almost any assignment is challenging. Our employees record signs of progress and assume that their employers are on track. Many of us are promoted one or more times. But do we know our ultimate destination? When we grow older and mature, promotions become less frequent, relationships and politics means more while both pressure and expectations escalate both at work and at home and wisdom takes over. Your career or job goals are likely to change more than one time in life. As you grow and develop and learn more about yourself and your jobs, you may change your mind. So how do you go ahead to discover your real career or professional goals?
Know what You really want - You need knowledge about yourself as well as information about the career options that fit your skills, values and interests. Interest clarification - You must explore your work interests or preferences. Try to recall what courses or training you really enjoyed and which careers you've considered pursuing. Value assessment - You must find out which of your values are important to you in terms of job and career satisfaction. Determine Your Skills - You must list the skills you currently possess as well as skills you do not have and wish to develop. Skills can originate from education, work experiences as well as from experiences from your life in general. Explore the career options - Do not limit yourself to one but look at various career fields. Find out what each of them entails. Set Preliminary Goals - Summarize the results of your self-assessment in a prioritized list or statement to serve as a reference as you begin to identify and research employers
If you do a good and thorough research, you will be able to uncover your real career or job goals; what you were meant to do in your life. Terje Brooks Ellingsen is a writer and internet publisher. Refinance Home Equity Line of Credit - Options for Paying Off a Line of Credit

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Carrie_Reeder]Carrie Reeder Refinancing a home equity line of credit can save you from rising
interest
rates. They can also help you develop a payment schedule that fits your
budget needs. And if you consolidate your home equity loan with your
first
mortgage, you can save even more on rates. Options For Paying Off Your Line Of Credit A home equity line of credit with its open terms and rates, makes it an
ideal candidate to refinance. The easiest option for refinancing is to
roll
over the loan to a second mortgage. You can choose fixed or adjustable
rates
and terms. Closing costs will also be minimal.
The other choice is to combine your home loans into one mortgage. This
will
qualify you for lower rates than if you just apply for a second
mortgage.
However, if you already have a low rate mortgage, you could lose out on
closing costs and interest charges.
If you are thinking about doing a total mortgage refi, its best to
compare
numbers on your financing options. Factor in how long you have left on
your
original loan, future interest charges, and possible savings. Be Choosing With Your Lender Your current lender will automatically strive for your business, but
take
the time to look at other offers. The best way to make comparisons is
to ask
for loan quotes.
These loan estimates should be based on preliminary information
supplied by
you. Dont allow lenders to access credit report; unless you want to
see
your score go down.
With loan quote numbers, look at the fine print. Compare the APR for
overall
loan costs, but also look at the closing costs and rates separately. If
you
dont plan on keeping your home or loan for more than seven years, you
dont
want to pay a lot at closing, even for a small reduction in rates. You
wont
recoup the cost in such a short time. Dont Delay Refinancing Once you find a favorable loan offer, start the application process to
secure the rate quoted. With online applications, your loan can be
processed
in less than two weeks with paperwork complete through the mail. View our recommended lenders for [http://www.abcloanguide.com/refinance.shtml]Mortgage Refinancing.

When did the Job Hunter Become the Bad Guy?

By Chris Souther Without a doubt, this is a highly competitive world we liveand workin. The job boards are full of very technical jobs requiring specific skill sets from would-be candidates. Nobody understands this better than the HR manager or the recruiter tasked to fill a position. Its not uncommon today to find, at the bottom of a job description, a statement in bold declaring, Please only apply if you meet ALL of the requirements listed. Thank you, we get it. This desire for the perfect candidate has fostered a perceived attitude of, Dont bother me all ye who are only 80% qualified. While we (job hunters) can understand the reasoning, the tone comes off sounding condescending. My question then is, When did the candidate become the bad guy? Isnt one of the main duties of an HR manager, and the only duty of a recruiter, to seek out and bring in the talent? Given this, why do so few of them bother with even a modicum of respect when dealing with candidates? We (again job hunters) understand that recruiting managers are going to receive hundreds of resumes within hours of posting a job. We understand that even if the listing specifically asks people not to call, theyre going to. We even understand that after sifting through these hundreds of resumes to find a few gems, it will probably take a few days to get back to us. But what we dont understand is the lack of respect and follow through shown to candidates who are effectively putting food on your table. True Story (times three) Im permanently employed, but Im looking. Nothing new about that. Since I currently have a job, Im being picky. In the last two months, Ive interviewed for three positions. As it turned out, I was only really interested in one of them after interviewing; however, one would have thought I had arrived and thumbed my nose at the interviewer and walked out. The lack of follow-up on the recruiters behalf was that poor. What gives? Did you like me? Did you hate me? Are there internal politics going on that have put the position on-hold for the time being? Come onthrow a guy a bone here. Are recruiters too busy to tell the poor sap that drove across town on his Saturday for an interview that the organization decided to go with someone else? That perhaps the recruiters is going to put the candidate on the maybe list while continuing to look for someone who will take less money? Is it really that difficult to pick up the phone or send an e-mail? I mean, isnt that part of your job? With all this, we (again the candidates) are the bad guys. Were supposed to get all excited when a recruiter calls and asks us to review our work experience over the phone with someone who found our resume online and should already have the information. For somebody who receives a paycheck based on how well they are able to woo candidates into the fold, HR managers and recruiters seem to have placed themselves on a pedestal. Being the corporate gatekeeper determining whether or not someone pays their mortgage next month is a lofty place to be, no-doubt. But lets not forget that everyone has to look for a job sometime. Karma can be a real pain if ignored. Chris Souther is a professional technical writer and trainer in the Atlanta area. When he's not battling mosquitos or drainage problems in his back yard, you can probably find him fly fishing up in Tennessee. Getting A Girl - What Is It All About?

By Adom Canaccord Getting a girl is all about creating a state a desire a passion. This is something that she has no control over. It is a state in her which takes all control. Once it's in her she can not be unhappy she can not be upset or think in a different way. It is how you think that is how she thinks because you have overwhelming desire for what you want. It's just like drugs, it's just like video games the ones that are addictive like crazy, it's like a lifestyle that a person just can never change; it's what they are. To create this state in her, this state has to be what you are all about, meaning it has to be what it is that is your passion. It's just something that you are passionate about it's just something that you do. It's like going out with friends that you can never give up. It's something that there is nothing that could ever be done about it. And to create this state you can't just try to feel it because your mind doesn't work like a light switch. It must be emulated and generated by behaviors and actions which are physical representations that turn into manifested reality. It's something you have to do no matter what. To do this you can't just try and hope that the vibe will be right. You do everything you can that will give you control and you know is right. And to do that you need specific behaviors and experiences and beliefs which will turn into actions and habits. It's because habits are not conscious that you use specific, conscious action. If you have subliminal intuition as an intuitive insight, use it. But if you don't have a premonitions, and different reflexes interfere with guidelines, don't budge, but maintain with the guidelines until they become internalized and the correct instinct immerge on their own. Grapefruit Diet Programs

By Kevin Stith Probably one of the longest existing diet formulas is the grapefruit-based diet. It has been around since the 1930's. Grapefruit is not only known for its vitamin C content but also its ability to secrete an enzyme that is believed to burn away body fat. As a diet tool, people either drink the juice of a grapefruit made from concentrate take grapefruit pills or eat the actual fruit during every diet fixture. People either drink the juice made from the fruit concentrate, take grapefruit pills, or eat the actual fruit during every meal. This is combined with other diet programs that call for \ lean-meat and a low-calorie intake. Grapefruit is consumed at least three times a day with a low caloric intake of other meats and vegetables. The modern-day version of the grapefruit diet allows combining the grapefruit formula with today's widely-used weight loss programs like Atkins and South Beach. Previously, a grapefruit diet prescribed to followers a strict guide in what to eat. For example, breakfasts consisted of protein and fat such as two eggs and two slices of bacon. At lunch and dinner, a dieter could unlimited meats and vegetables. While many people swear by the effectiveness of grapefruit in reducing tweight, there are several findings that seem to say otherwise. Some diet experts claim that the miracles of a grapefruit diet are baseless and at most an urban legend. Nobody can really explain how grapefruit or the enzyme it produces melts body fat. The claim was made in the 1930's, yet -- no one can really explain how it is possible. Other diet experts attribute the alleged success to the lean meat and low calorie meal plans that the grapefuit diet is paired with. These counter allegations are not scientifically proven either. So, if you are on a grapefruit diet and it seems to be working well for you, it may be best for you to continue. After all, what matters is that a diet program works. How Long Will You Live?

By Tracie Johanson Perhaps you've seen the latest health news.....scientists are concerned that our overweight and obese population will not live as long as previous generations. USA Today recently reported that "Obesity could shorten the average lifespan of an entire generation - today's children - by two to five years, according to a controversial new life-expectancy analysis" (Source: Nanci Hellmich, USA TODAY). In ancient Rome, a newborn child could expect to live to 22. In the 1900's, in the US, 49 was the average life expectancy. In 1991, the average life expectancy was 75 years. Between 1950-1980, the population of those over 65 doubled, and by the year 2025, the group of people aged 60 and over will have grown from 376 million in 1980 to 1.12 billion. (Source: Donna M. De Cunzo, R.D., L.D.) Life expectancy for Americans today is 77.6 years, an all-time high. But there's no doubt about it: obesity and all the related physical problems that come with obesity, are causing some serious issues for us and our health. Now more than ever, it's critical that we take the time to exercise and educate ourselves on healthy eating! Obesity is the problem, and WE can be part of the solution! Researchers at Tuft's University have studied aging. They have come up with the following five factors, which they call biomarkers, that can help people live longer and improve the quality of their life. 1. DIET. As the body ages, it requires fewer calories. Men and women 55 and older need 150 to 200 fewer calories per day than those younger than age 55. This decrease may be due to a natural decline in metabolic rate and/or decreased physical activity. However, the need for essential nutrients does not changed. Thus, there is not much room for high calorie, low nutrient foods. According to the USDA's Human Consumption Survey, those over 55 were found to consume less than 70% of the RDA for B6, B12, calcium, magnesium and vitamin A. Even for those who require special diets to treat diseases such as diabetes or high blood pressure, a diet low in animal products and high in fiber (from whole grains, fruits and vegetables) is beneficial. 2. LEAN BODY MASS. Lean body mass, or muscle mass, generally decreases at a rate of 2% per decade after age 40. When LBM decreases, disuse syndrome occurs, resulting in obesity, fragility, depression and decreased cardiovascular function. This is why it's critical to engage in regular resistance exercise throughout life! 3. BODY FAT PERCENTAGE. Keeping body fat down and lean body mass up is important in preventing injury and disease. 4. AEROBIC CAPACITY. Exercise aerobically at least 3 times a week, keeping the heart rate at about 70% of maximum for 30 minutes or longer. 5. STRENGTH. Weight bearing exercise is especially important in reducing the risk of osteoporosis. Dr. Bill Evans studied a group of people at age 90 who needed assistance with daily tasks and had a history of falling. Dr. Evans had the group lift 80% of their one repetition maximum weight for an eight week period. After eight weeks, the group increased muscle strength by 60% and increased LBM by 10%. (Source: Dr. Bill Evans and Dr. Irv Rosenberg of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Human Nutrition Research Center at Tuft's University.) The take-home message is that obesity causes a lot of health problems. As a nation, our weight issue has gotten so out of hand that it may impact overall life expectancy. However, WE CAN BE PART OF THE SOLUTION by engaging in regular exercise (both aerobic and resistance exercise) and by watching what we eat. This is especially true as we get older. So, while nobody really knows how long we'll live, we can certainly tip the odds in our favor! * Copyright 2005 Pick Up The Pace. Tummy Tuck What It Will Cost You

By Robert H Without doubt the ideal prospect for a tummy tuck operation is someone who maintains a healthy lifestyle eats well exercises frequently and is generally in good physical shape. But no matter how much they exercise or diet they cannot seem to shed the loose skin and fat around the lower abdominal area. Having tried almost everything else from diets to wonder drugs most people come to the conclusion that a tummy tuck is the only way to go. The major factor today with any health procedure is cost and the tummy tuck procedure is no exception. Like everything else cost plays its part in deciding which tummy tuck procedure to go with if its the full tummy tuck abdominoplasty or mini tummy tuck. The cost factor will no doubt ultimately be one of the deciding factors when choosing which procedure to go for; the cost of these procedures will differ significantly on the level of surgery required. Prospective patients should also bear in mind that no two operations are the same and additional costs could be incurred due to any problems that may arise during the procedure and additional complexities. Data issued by the American Society Aesthetic Plastic Surgery quotes "the average cost for tummy tuck surgery is about $5000" .Research done on tummy tuck cost in New Jersey recently showed that a tummy tuck operation cost was between $5000 to $9000.Anyone thinking of going ahead with a tummy tuck procedure is well advised to do plenty of research as far as tummy tuck cost is concerned before committing themselves. Ask questions of your surgeon are there any hidden costs, are follow up visits and consultations included, does the initial cost cover any drugs or treatment required after the surgery. All these questions should be asked at the consultation with your surgeon ask him what the worse case scenario is regarding cost it is best to be well prepared rather than face a larger than expected bill afterwards. If you are unsure about paying in one lump sum ask if they have an installment plan to spread the cost so its more financially manageable. Before you make your choice though be sure to thoroughly research tummy tuck costs in other states to where you live. As it could save you a lot of money as the cost of a tummy tuck operation differs greatly from state to state. The Things You Won't Look Out For (But Should) When Night Fishing

By Daniel Eggertsen 5 Things To Be Careful of When Night Fishing Night fishing can be some of the most exciting, rewarding and fulfilling fishing you ever do in your life. It can also be the most dangerous fishing you ever do as well. Here are 5 quick things to look out for and be careful of next time you venture out... One - Trees can make your trip miserable. We used to fish at the same lake every weekend for 6 months during the day. I knew this lake like the back of my hand, so it seemed anyway. One Saturday night, we decided to try our luck night fishing on this lake. Once we got out in the water, we were catching fish like no other. Maybe it was carelessness or the adrenaline flowing, but we were whipping around the lake to get to our favorite daytime spot, anxious to see if we would get the same results. What appeared to be open water was actually a graveyard of fallen trees and submerged tree stumps. I'm sure you can imagine the damage the boat received. Just goes to show you the waters are completely different at night than in the day. Sure we knew the water had trees throughout, but they were much easier to see during the day. Two - Other boaters While you have control over the lights on your boat, you don't have that luxury with other boats on the water with you. Some people do not abide by the law and they choose to not use their lights when night fishing for whatever reason. Seeing another boat at night when they do not have their lights on can be a challenge. Three - Insects Big fish aren't the only things that come out at night. Expect to find more mosquitoes and black flies at night, eager to snack on your skin. Always bring some bug spray (deet) with you. Four - Wildlife Like insects, you may find an increase in animals out at night with you. One in particular are snakes. For some reason, we come across more snakes at night than during the day. Five - Fishing with others It is hard to see your partner's rod when he is casting at night. Many times have I been snagged by a lure being casted by my partner. Keep an eye out for your co-fishermen when you cast your line. Leadership Lessons - 10 Leadership Secrets From a TV Reality Show

By Consuelo Meux Have you ever watched television to find creative ideas, business marketing concepts or even leadership lessons for your business? Its easy to get into the habit of using your television time to increase your business ideas. For instance, many people walk out when the commercials come on. But if youre looking for marketing ideas, commercials are free idea generators for your business. Watching commercials is a way to get ideas on how to promote your business. See if the advertisement makes sense, appeals to a targeted audience and effectively sells a product. The ideas in some television shows can give you new ideas too. When Donald Trump decided to become a television star, my curiosity was peaked. Even though I dont watch a lot of television, it struck me that anyone who can take a failed business and bring it back to billionaire status certainly would be of interest to a person interested in business or leadership. And becoming a television star was just evidence of the risk taking ability of this brilliant, billionaire businessman. Even though the television show about having a billionaire businessman do a 13-week job interview for an apprentice is just another reality show hit, you can find leadership lessons each week if you look hard enough. Some leadership lessons are found while the contestants pursue their projects. Many more can be learned through the interactions in the Boardroom Scenes at the end. Here are 10 points that you could learn from this reality show on leadership. See if you identify any of these in your workplace. Think fast
Be creative
Provide feasible suggestions
Dont bad-mouth your team
Be a decisive leader
Make a decision and move on
Conduct yourself with dignity at all times
Be positive
Think up alternatives/Have a Plan B
Never forget the budget Use your instincts and training to view current events and even television shows with an eye to learn how to be a better, more creative leader in business. You can always challenge yourself to think better, faster, and smarter by seeing how new concepts and imaginative ideas can be applied to your business. California Financial Privacy Law Partially Invalidated

By Richard Chapo The 9th Circuit Federal Court of Appeals has dealt a blow to privacy advocates by invalidating a California privacy law. In litigation brought by the American Bankers Association and others, the appellate court overruled the finding of a trial judge that the California law could stand. Instead, the appellate justices found the law to be pre-empted in part by the federal 2003 Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act. When a state law conflicts with a federal one, the federal law takes precedent. For instance, the Supreme Court has ruled abortion to be constitutionally protected. No state may pass anti-abortion laws and have them enforced. The question at issue in the California law was a section giving California residents the right to block financial institutions from selling their private information to third parties. A San Francisco trial judge, Morrison C. England, Jr., had ruled the section conflicted with provisions of the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act, but was not pre-empted because the federal law allowed for stricter state laws. The 9th Circuit court disagreed. The case will be returned to Judge Morrison in the next 60 days. He will then determine whether any other provisions dealing with the sale of personal financial information are still enforceable. Given the appellate ruling, it is difficult to imagine a ruling upholding this section of the California law. Notwithstanding these developments, approximately seventy percent of the California privacy law is still enforceable. Financial institution still must get permission from customers prior to selling or sharing your information with third parties. You should be concerned about financial institutions selling your private information to others. With all the incidents of identity theft in the news, chances are you will eventually become a target. Banks should be focusing on protecting their customers, not making a buck off private information. The Popularity Of The Nokia Cellular Phone

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Riley_Hendersen]Riley Hendersen Nothing has revolutionized communication as much as the cell phone - that portable device that has utterly transformed the way we make and receive phone calls. While the cell phone as we know it is relatively young, there are few among us who can remember a time when a phone call was not right at our fingertips no matter where we are or what we are doing. The cell phone has so completely infiltrated our lives that we, as a society, are dependent upon its services, staying true to those brand names that consistently deliver us quality and dependability. Subsequently, the Nokia cellular phone continues to be one of the more popular cell phones on the market today. The Nokia Corporation is a Finnish company operated outside of Helsinki. To date, they are the largest manufacturer of cellular phones in the world. But they got their start in 1865 as a paper manufacturer - a far cry from the electronics giant that it would grow to become. As the company reinvented itself through the years, new divisions were added to the growing conglomerate of services and products it offered. Nokia began producing electronics in the late 1960s, launching portable phones in the mid 1980s. The corporation was a pioneer in early mobile communication. And when the world's first satellite call was placed in 1994, it was done using one of their cellular phones. Today's phones are known just as much for its signature ring as it is for its quality service and dependability. The 2100 Series - twenty million of which have been sold - first featured the ring tone in 1994 and the piece of music very quickly became synonymous with Nokia. The Nokia cellular phone today is an ever-expanding product line that features communication capabilities, music, cameras, access to online services, gaming, and organizational capabilities. No matter what phone each customer decides on, the services offered reflect the attention to detail. But with so many choices, picking that particular phone that will have the most impact your life can be tricky. The modern product line features phones that support a wide range of functions- including video recording, MP3 players, Bluetooth capability, and advanced text, graphics and ring tones. In designing the cellular phone, Nokia has integrated quality materials with quality customer service - establishing a reputation in the marketplace for always responding to the ever-changing needs of the public. Their cellular phone can be purchased through any authorized dealer where you can sign up for a contract plan and purchase the phone that best works for you. It is also possible to purchase a cellular phone through a variety of online resources including the Nokia website. As the future of cellular phone service comes upon us, the Nokia Corporation stands poised to deliver products that offer the most advanced technology and that best integrate all the components of multi-media available in today's world. No matter what the future holds, it is a safe bet that their cellular phone will continue to be on the cutting-edge of communication. Humor and Healthy Marriage

By Caitlina Fuller Marriage is not filled with perfect days, although there are quite a few that come along. There are actually plenty of bad days, problems, sadness, and other issues that occur during a marriage that the couple must overcome and handle in order to continue the marriage. Fortunately, there are several things that can help you get through the tough days. These include humor, understanding, and above all the love you share for one another. Humor is so important because laughing makes you happy! It makes you feel closer to one another and when you laugh special chemicals are released in your brain that makes you feel better. Things like jokes, old memories, and even caricatures can make you laugh at each other, the world, and whatever situation is making you feel sad. Thats why humor is so important in a healthy marriage. Understanding is also important. You must be able to put yourself in your partners shoes and consider the situation from their point of view. When you do this you are better able to understand how they feel and why even if you dont necessarily agree with their position. Its not always easy to think of the other persons viewpoint when you are so fixated on your own. But, when there are two different viewpoints it is very important for both spouses to consider what their spouse is feeling and thinking. If you make this part of your marriage then you can count on a long happy life together. Finally, when you love your partner and always put that love first you will be able to maintain a healthy marriage. Of course, sometimes you may not feel so loving or your spouse may not, but if you always consider your wedding vows you will surely be able to work out your differences and enjoy your married life. It takes a lot of work to stay married and to work out problems. However, when you include humor, understanding, and love in your marriage you can rest assured that most days of your marriage will go well for you. Caitlina Fuller is a freelance writer. Blessed Art Thou Who Eat Buffalo Wings

By Eric Vinje We can thank Mother Teressa for Buffalo chicken wings. No, no, no. Not that Mother Theresa, the nun known for helping the poor and dying in India. This Mother Teressa hailed from Buffalo. She is the patron saint of those who crave a hot, flavorful snack also known as Buffalo Wings - those spicy chicken wings that come with celery sticks and Bleu Cheese dressing. While most people agree on when Buffalo Wings were created - 1964 - and where - The Anchor Bar, then owned by Teressa and Frank Bellisimo in Buffalo, NY - there are several different versions on how buffalo wings came into being. The most popular story has Teressa making Buffalo chicken wings as a late night snack for her son Dominic and his friends. She was just about to make chicken stock with a bunch of wings and instead turned them into a snack by broiling them and then sprinkling them with hot sauce and serving them with some celery sticks off the bar's antipasto plates and using the bar's bleu cheese dressing as a garnish. Teressa, her husband and her son have since gone on to their final rewards, but Dominic told Calvin Trillin a different version, which Trillin wrote up in the New Yorker magazine in the 1980s. In Dominic's version, he wanted to do something for his patrons on a Friday night. Many of the folks in the bar were Catholic and back in the 1960s couldn't eat meat on Fridays. So Dominic asked his mom, Teressa, to devise a snack, which she did, then served it at midnight when the meat fast was over. Teressa's husband Frank told yet another version of the tale. In this one, the bar got a delivery of chicken wings instead of the backs and necks needed to make the bar's spaghetti sauce. The chicken wings were cheap - back in 1964 they cost five cents per pound - and Teressa ended up creating buffalo wings because of the wrong delivery. No matter how they were created, buffalo wings today mean unbreaded chicken wings, deep fried and coated in a cayenne pepper sauce to which butter and vinegar have been added. Many restaurants serve different "heat" levels for buffalo wings including mild, medium, hot and suicidal. The more butter added to the sauce the less spicy it is. Unless they make their own, most restaurants and bars use cayenne hot sauces as the base for their spicy buffalo wing sauce. According to buffalo wing ordering protocol, a "single" order is 10 wings, a "double" is 20 and a "triple" is 30. They can also be ordered by the "bucket" in quantities of 50 or more. To this day you can still visit the Anchor Bar in Buffalo and order up some buffalo wings. (Nearby Duff's just outside of the Buffalo City limits is also known to have great Buffalo wings.) Reportedly, many celebrities and politicians including Vice President Mondale, First Lady Hillary Clinton and Los Angeles Dodgers Coach Tommy Lasorda, have all ordered buffalo wings from the Anchor Bar when in the upstate New York birthplace of the Buffalo chicken wings. Buffalo chicken wings are also a staple at many bars and restaurant chains including Hooters, TGIFs, Bennigans and so on. Many pizzerias including Dominos and Pizza Hut have them on the menu. Even KFC - formerly Kentucky Fried Chicken - has gotten into the game. Many serve traditional Buffalo wings, but there are many derivations, including some with Asian soy sauce or other non-spicy marinades. This article was written by Eric Vinje of Cosmic Chile.
