By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Tim_Gorman]Tim Gorman Cell phone here, cell phone there, cell phones everywhere! Even in elementary school, kids are talking on their personal cell phones! Then there is the cell phone distracted driver. All ages, both genders - are guilty of using the cell phone while driving a car. Granted, some people seem to handle it rather well. Navigating while talking on their cell phone is no problem for them. Then there is that driver who would be 'iffy' under any circumstances, yet there they are, driving while they have that cell phone glued to their ear and holding up traffic, invariably in the wrong lane and attempting to change lanes in the middle of the intersection! There ought to be a law! Well, in some states there are laws about using a cell phone while driving but they are loosely enforced - at least, I haven't seen much evidence of them being enforced. ...And cell phones in places like church - yep, a sermon in full swing and just at the crucial moment - off goes a cell phone - beep, beep, beep ... or whatever whimsical tune the owner has plugged in as a ring alert. OK, I use a cell phone. Do I do any of those outrageous things? Hmmm, well, maybe ... OK, I have done most of them too, but I am different! I am me! Hmmm, - OK, we all need to be a little more considerate when using our cell phones. I use mine for work, and so do a lot of other people and, for security reasons they are hard to beat. Yes, and even catching up on the latest news with our friends, and calling when we otherwise would not be able to contribute to the great convenience and popularity of cell phones. How about the security issue? Many of the organizations that have established houses of refuge for 'Battered Wives' give used cell phones to the women so they can call 911, if needed, to protect themselves - while outside - from a threatening person, or imminent attack. Did you know that as long as the cell phone battery is good, a call can be placed to 911 without having a calling service? Yup, it's true. You can dial 911 from any cell phone having a good battery and is generally operable, even without paying for a carrier. That does pre-suppose that you are close enough to a tower to make a call. That introduces another aspect of cell phones: tower availability and those dreaded 'roaming' charges. If you happen to be driving along using your cell phone and all of a sudden you can hardly hear the other party ... and then you are disconnected -- ! What's going on? You are between tower reception areas! Besides that, you can be making a local call and, after driving a little while, you are suddenly incurring roaming charges! This can be rather expensive compared to regular local calls. You bet! Being out of the calling area will trigger a roaming charge, and it seems that the charges are whatever they want them to be! At least, I can't figure out how the cell phone companies charge for roaming. Anyway, may you have happy calling everyday, all day long, and never incur a cell phone roaming charge!
